Melty Permissions and Privacy: What Players Should Check

Melty is a Windows app for setting up and playing creator-published game mashups. Before installing it, you should know which actions its current terms (opens in a new tab) permit and which information its privacy policy (opens in a new tab) says the app reports. The statements below are Melty's published descriptions, checked October 22, 2026. GameMerging AI has not independently audited the installer or certified it safe.

What pressing Play may do on your PC

Melty's terms say its app can find installed games and read their versions; download a mashup and needed tools; copy files from games you own when a project requires them; write files to game folders and other setup locations; build components; start games and supporting programs; and update itself automatically. The terms say replaced files are copied first so the app can restore them when a mashup is removed. They also say you must own the original games used by a mashup. These are software-installation permissions, not the behavior of a game that runs entirely in a web page.

For a particular project, open the original listing and confirm the exact games, editions, versions and creator before using Play. Melty's terms say each release is audited, but that is the platform's own statement; it is not an independent test by this site or a guarantee that a project will work on your PC. Keep a backup of saves you care about before testing a new modded setup.

What Melty says it collects

Data or action What the October 12 privacy policy says What the statement does not establish
Installed games The app scans game names and versions on your PC. Melty says the list of games and the files from your own copies are not uploaded to it. This site has not measured the app's network traffic.
Install and play reports The app sends whether an install, update or launch worked, short error details and the game version. If a launch fails, it can send the end of relevant logs after removing specified personal fields; the creator can see reports and logs for their mashup. Redaction described in a policy is not an independent audit of every possible log line.
App-window recordings For some new users, the policy describes a replay of activity inside the Melty window; for some other users, it describes a replay when something goes wrong. Melty says typed information is hidden and nothing outside that window, including games, is recorded. The policy describes Melty's claim and scope. This site has not verified the recording implementation.
Multiplayer When hosting, the service keeps the game's IP address and port and shares them with joining players. A private invite link does not mean other players never receive a connection address.

The policy says logs sent with install and play reports are kept for 30 days; it describes recordings of app use as kept for a limited time without specifying that same 30-day period. Read the current policy (opens in a new tab) directly if the retention or data sharing matters to your decision.

A practical decision before installing

  1. Reach melty.gg directly or from the project's verified creator page. Check the URL before downloading; a similarly named site is not the official installer.
  2. Read the terms (opens in a new tab) and privacy policy (opens in a new tab) as they stand when you install. Confirm that the local file actions, reports and app-window recordings described there are acceptable to you.
  3. Back up the game's saves or worlds, note the exact game and mod versions, and use a separate test profile when possible. A launcher saying it can restore replaced files is not a substitute for your own save backup.
  4. If Windows, your browser or a security tool warns about a file, stop and verify its source and exact detection. Do not disable protection as a generic installation step. An online claim or a single alert is a reason to investigate, not by itself proof that a particular installer stole data.

Does Melty record my gameplay? Its current policy says the described recordings are of the Melty window and exclude games. This site has not independently verified that technical boundary. Does a free mashup include the base games? No; Melty's terms require your own legitimate copies. Is every listing independently safe and playable? The platform describes its own release review, while this site has not run those builds. Check each project's requirements and first in-game result.

If you decide to use the app, return to the Melty play and creation guide for its workflow. For precautions that apply to any third-party mod, use the general AI mod safety checklist. Creators planning to publish should separately read Section 7 of Melty's current terms (opens in a new tab), which describes distribution rights; this player guide does not interpret those rights for them.
