Player2 AI NPC: Install a Minecraft Companion

Player2 AI NPC adds an AI companion to Minecraft: Java Edition. The mod provides the in-game character; the separate Player2 desktop app connects it to the AI service. The author describes chat commands, inventory and world interaction, and a configurable character-selection key. It is a single-game AI-powered mod, not a cross-game mashup.

Choose the correct file first

At the October 20, 2026 check, the author's 1.4.0 file list separates game and loader combinations. Do not install one JAR in every profile.

Minecraft Loader Author file on CurseForge
1.21.1 NeoForge player2npc-neoforge-1.21.1-1.4.0.jar
1.21.1 Fabric player2npc-fabric-1.21.1-1.4.0.jar
1.20.1 Forge player2npc-forge-1.20.1-1.4.0.jar
1.20.1 Fabric player2npc-fabric-1.20.1-1.4.0.jar

The author lists Architectury API (opens in a new tab) and PlayerEngine (opens in a new tab); Fabric also needs Fabric API (opens in a new tab). Choose dependency files for the same Minecraft version and loader. The Player2 App link (opens in a new tab) is on the author's project page.

Install and meet your first companion

  1. Install and open the Player2 desktop app using the author's link. Expected: the app stays running in the background. If not: resolve its own launch or sign-in message before starting Minecraft.
  2. In a separate Minecraft instance, install the loader matching one row above. Add its matching Fabric API where needed, Architectury API and PlayerEngine. Expected: the game starts with those dependencies. If not: compare the file pages and game/loader versions; do not mix Fabric, Forge and NeoForge JARs.
  3. Download the Player2 AI NPC JAR for that exact row and place it in the instance's mods folder. Expected: the mod loads with the game. If not: capture the loader error and check for missing dependencies or a different game version.
  4. Join a single-player world while Player2 App is running. Expected: a companion appears nearby according to the author; H opens the character-selection screen. If not: check the app and mod versions, then the author's page for current setup notes.
  5. Open chat and try a modest request, such as Hello. Can you collect a few logs nearby? Expected: the companion responds or acts in the world. If not: test a simple greeting first, then check app connection and any in-game error. Do not describe an unanswered prompt as proof the mod is installed correctly.

The author also documents opt-in speech input via V and the Player2 speech service. It requires a microphone and consent in-game; text chat is the simpler first test. The AI feature depends on an external app and service. Pricing, limits and data handling can change; read Player2's current app terms before using a microphone or relying on a specific free allowance. The project page alone does not certify privacy or safety.
